The Board of Directors has adopted a Code of Conduct for all PSRA participants.
Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association Code of Conduct
For All Participants
Including athletes, coaches, parents, spectators, volunteers and officials
The PSRA, as an Interscholastic rowing organization, plays an important role in promoting the physical, social and emotional development of young athletes. It is in the best interest of our association that parents, spectators, coaches, and officials encourage young athletes, and each other, to embrace the values of good sportsmanship, as traditionally exemplified by participants in the sport of rowing. Moreover, adults involved in rowing events, including parents and spectators, are expected to be models of good sportsmanship, and should lead by example by demonstrating fairness, respect, and self-control.
The PSRA code of conduct, as defined by the pledge below, is to be adopted by all participating members of the PSRA and a copy distributed, or made electronically available, to all coaches, directors of participating parent associations, organization officials, and administrators.
Acceptance as a PSRA member, individually or as an organization representing athletes, coaches, parents, and spectators, shall constitute adoption of the code of conduct detailed below.
I will be responsible for my words and actions while attending, coaching, spectating officiating or participating in a PSRA rowing event and shall conform to the following code of conduct
- I will not engage in, or encourage others to engage in, unsportsmanlike conduct with any coach, parent, spectator, athlete, participant, official, PSRA volunteer or any other attendee.
- I will not engage in, or encourage others to engage in, any behavior which would endanger the health, safety or well-being of any coach, parent, athlete, participant, official, PSRA volunteer or any other attendee.
- I will not use or encourage others to use profanity.
- I will treat, and encourage others to treat, every coach, parent, athlete, participant, official, PSRA volunteer or any other attendee with respect regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or ability and encourage others to do likewise.
- I will not engage in, or encourage others to engage in, verbal or physical threats or abuse that is aimed at any coach, parent, athlete, participant, official or any other attendee.
- I will not initiate, or encourage others to initiate, a fight or scuffle with any coach, parent, spectator, athlete, participant, official, PSRA volunteer or any other attendee.
- I will abide by all USRowing-adopted SafeSport policies aimed at eliminating any forms of sexual misconduct, emotional misconduct, physical misconduct, bullying, harassment and hazing.
Failure to conform to this code of conduct while attending, coaching, spectating, officiating or participating in a PSRA event may result in disciplinary action, including but
not limited to the following in any order or combination, applied to each PSRA member organization:
- Written warning issued by a PSRA official to the offending PSRA organization’s coaches and administration and a fine to the PSRA member organization of $500.
- Written warning issued by a PSRA official to the offending PSRA organization’s coaches and administration and a fine to the PSRA member organization of $1,000.
- Suspension or immediate ejection from a PSRA event of all PSRA member organization’s Senior/Varsity crews (all Senior crews such as 8+, 4+, 4X, 2X, 2-, 1X) issued by an official who is authorized to issue such suspension or ejection by the association board.
- Suspension from all PSRA events issued by an association official who is authorized to issue such suspension by the association board. Written notification will be sent to PSRA member organization’s coaches and administration.
- Season suspension or multiple season suspensions of the PSRA member organization issued by the association board. Written notification will be sent to PSRA member organization’s coaches and administration.
Associating spectators with PSRA member organizations: If a spectator violates the PSRA Code of Conduct, they will be asked which PSRA member organization(s) (Team[s]) they are supporting. Their response, combined with any identifying gear, or any other means of identifying the spectator’s associated PSRA member organization(s), will be used to assess penalties described above to ALL PSRA member organization(s) a spectator is associated with.
Penalties described above are cumulative for each PSRA member organization, not only for each individual.
Example: A parent from Team A (per verbal response) and Team B (wearing Team B gear) is aggressive and uses profanity with a PSRA volunteer at the entrance gate.
First Offense: Since this is the individual offender from Team B, Team B is issued a written warning to coaches and administration plus a $500 fine.
Since this parent is the second individual offender from Team A, Team A is issued a written warning to coaches and administration of Team A plus a $1,000 fine.
SafeSport Policy – The PSRA adheres to the USRowing-adopted SafeSport policies aimed at eliminating any forms of sexual misconduct, emotional misconduct, physical misconduct, bullying, harassment and hazing. In the area of jurisdiction, the PSRA reserves the right to conduct its own investigation and resolution of issues involving the above misconduct in conjunction with and parallel to the investigations and resolutions of the US Center for SafeSport Agency.
